I agree completely with HALF IN THE BAG’s latest review of ‘THE MEDIOCRE SPIDERMAN.’
It’s movies like this that makes me hate the current movie industry. It’s become business first, story/quality last. It’s become HOW MUCH MONEY WE CAN MAKE NOW, rather than HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT THIS MOVIE CAN BE YEARS FROM NOW. There’s so much resentment over our current government (of both sides), wallstreet, banks, cooperate America. But I say, people should start picketing these greedy studios.

Ten years ago, there was a remake to the 1978 classic, ‘Superman: The Movie.’ It was called ‘SPIDERMAN.’ Ten years later, ‘SPIDERMAN’ gets a remake. It is called, ‘THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN.’ There’s no question - this movies exists only for the purpose of Sony keeping the rights to Spidey, otherwise, Marval gets it back (same goes with X-Men at Fox). Between the two Spiderman’s, I liked this one more. But between the two Spidermans, the 2002 cut was more exciting. Sure, it was nothing more than a knockoff to Richard Donner’s Superman, but the special effects was one of a kind, and really kick-start this comic book, superhero mishmash that is going on. If this movie was released ten years ago, or ten years from now - I would express how AMAZING this is. But because it has been ten years since the original, FIVE YEARS(!!!!111), since the last film of THAT series, and released in the middle of Avengers and Dark Knight Rises, Spidey deserved better timing. Getting to the point, I enjoyed the parts of this film that had a different feel to the previous films. I got bored with the parts that were redundant.
Written May 2002 for the Vanguard School Newspaper. This was my very first formal review. I do remember that I was working at AMC Forum 30 at the time, and when Spiderman unleashed itself, it was BIG! Who knew ten years later, there would be a remake!
If I wrote this review today, it would be a lot more negative than positive. But back in 2002, it was the greatest thing on Earth!
